On May 17, 2024, officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department responded to two personal injury crashes within one hour. The first of the two crashes occurred at 2:43 P.M., at the intersection of Lower Huntington Road and Branstrator Road. A preliminary investigation indicated that a passenger car was northbound on Branstrator Road and a tri-axle dump truck was westbound on Lower Huntington Road. The passenger car had a stop sign, the dump truck did not. The passenger car entered the intersection and was struck on the passenger side by the dump truck. The driver of the passenger car was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.
The second crash occurred at the intersection of State Road 101 and Gar Creek Road, at approximately 3:27 P.M. A preliminary investigation indicated that a motorcycle was southbound on State Road 101 and an SUV was westbound on Gar Creek Road. The driver of the SUV had a stop sign. The driver of the motorcycle did not. The SUV entered the intersection and collided with the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. The driver of the SUV was not injured.
Both crashes remain under investigation.
