On November 6, 2024, at approximately 6:12 P.M., officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area of U.S. 27 South, north of Flatrock Road, reference a crash involving three vehicles. Upon arrival, officers and fire department personnel located two pickup trucks and one semi tractor trailer involved.
A preliminary investigation indicated that a pickup truck was northbound on U.S. 27, in the southbound travel lanes, north of Flatrock Road. A second pickup truck involved was southbound on U.S. 27, in a southbound travel lane. The two pickup trucks collided, nearly head-on. A semi tractor trailer traveling southbound on U.S. 27, behind the second pickup truck, then collided with at least one of the pickup trucks involved. The semi went across the grass median and came to rest in the northbound travel lanes.
The pickup truck traveling northbound burst into flames after impact. The driver of that pickup truck was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the second pickup truck (traveling southbound), was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.
The driver of the semi tractor trailer was not injured.
