On September 16, 2023 at approximately 6:36 A.M., officers with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area of Hand Road, south of Hathaway Road, regarding an unconscious person off the side of the roadway.
Upon arrival, officers and medics located an unconscious adult male near the roadway. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A preliminary investigation indicated the male was struck by a vehicle, which left the scene. Officers located vehicle parts at the scene that they believed to be from the suspect vehicle.
After piecing together a brief timeline, officers from a different call for service indicated they had a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle from the hit-skip crash. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time it was located.
There is no suspect in custody at this time. If anyone has information regarding this incident, contact 260-449-3000 or Crime Stoppers. This investigation is ongoing.
